a few weeks ago we traveled out to colorado for wesley’s cousin’s wedding. it was a bit of a whirlwind, as we were mainly there for the wedding, but we wanted to cram as much into three days as we possibly could. this is a tiny glimpse into our trip (if you want to see more of our day to day: check out instagram). we flew into denver, proceeded to drive to colorado springs for a two day stay and then it was back up to estes park with our last night spent in denver. although not all of the teague family was in attendance (we missed you daniel & laura!), we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the lovely (read: lucky) weather that we experienced. there was a massive snow storm two days before we got there and again two days after we left, but while we were there it was 70 & sunny. we’ve already been traveling a lot this wedding season and this was only just the beginning – we’re excited to document our trips along the way and hopefully share more with you here!

one morning we journeyed to a kitschy, little town called manitou springs. all of the shops were closed so we decided to mosey the streets and came across an outdoor arcade which was deserted and had a bit of a errie feel to it.

and this, ladies and gents, is where the wedding ceremony took place (!!!) it was amazing. every photographer talks about how nice it is to attend a wedding and not be working, but really, this was such a nice respite. and, of course, we still carried our camera and took the opportunity to take pictures of all the beautiful people in our family.

arrtie & alex’s night was such a classy, southern event. although it was not, in fact, their wedding, it was a beautiful reception celebrating the civil vows they’d made a few months earlier. these two smarties are both doctors here in birmingham, so it was nice for them to get away and let loose with their family and closest friends. the celebration took place at a stunning antebellum home in the heart of historic columbus, mississippi – the beautiful private residence belongs to long time friends of the bride & groom.

everything was perfectly created and coordinated by the lovely m. elizabeth events, and don’t even get me started on the food by kathy g. and co, but more on that later… on another note, we loved the traditional Indian details and garb sported by arrtie her family that night. we were blessed to work with such a fun couple and such wonderful vendors – cheers to happy couple, arrtie & alex!

and now begins the moment where you feast your eyes on all of the delectable eats, if you need to go grab a snack, it’s understandable. i did.

their tent was lined with over 2000 lights – a fun alternative to incorporating string lights into your decor & a photographer’s dream!

we’re really excited for the september wedding that these two are planning at swann lake stables. lauren has been such a joy to work with in these months leading up to the big day. lauren is thoughtful and kind and truly giddy to marry the man of her dreams, while michael is so great at supporting her throughout the whole process. after rescheduling their engagement session for a number of weather related reasons, we finally got a perfect (and very green) spring day!

We’re so excited to share this shoot with you today. It seems like it’s been months in the making, when in all actuality we put this together with an amazing team of professionals in two weeks! We’ve been waiting to share it for a number of reasons, but if I had it my way, I would have had it up on the blog within days after shooting – I’ve been so impatient!

This concept was born out of a desire to capture one last bit of winter before spring made her glorious appearance. We were inspired by the idea of a cozy, overcast day (which we were lucky enough to have on the day of our shoot), snuggly blankets and richly textured pillows, homemade desserts, warm drinks and an earthy color pallete with hints of winter’s deep evergreens. We wanted to encompass the style and personality of our ideal wedding. We found our amazing cabin (built in the 1800s) nestled in the rolling hills of Sweet Apple Farms just outside of Birmingham. Our models, Lindsey & Adam, are madly in love and engaged in real life – not to mention, a very handsome pair! The bride wore an Ivy & Aster gown (Borrowed from the lovely Ivory & White boutique) that exuded bohemian elegance. Kelly of Kelly Dellinger Events tied all of the elements together and truly brought our vision to life.

caroline & david have a wedding anniversary coming up and thought what better way to celebrate than have some photos made – i couldn’t agree more. i think it’s a great idea to have portraits made every 2-3 years of your marriage, even if the only thing that changes is your hairdo. these two recently made the move to birmingham from sunny florida and while they said the winter was hard to adjust to, they have found themselves frequenting oak mountain state park when the weather is nice, so, naturally we decided to shoot there. hope you enjoy these colorful candids!

this morning i began combing through the images from brittney & evan’s wedding this past weekend and the series of images from which this photo was taken stopped me in my tracks. these two made our job so easy. really can’t wait to share this lovely day at burritt on the mountain with you guys! congratulations, brittney & evan – enjoy your week in puerto rico!

laura & dan’s engagement session was an all day affair – and a fun one at that! daniel is wesley’s brother, so laura is our soon to be sister-in-law and we couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming wedding! we began the day at church street coffee & books where we documented them doing something they truly love to do together: drinking coffee! later that day, we found ourselves grabbing an afternoon snack at steel city pops (i’ll post a couple of those on facebook later this week!) and then we were off on our third and final adventure for the day. laura lives in nashville, while dan is settled in jackson, mississippi so we’ve been happy to be their meeting spot on a number of occasions for the past few years. it’s been so fun to watch their friendship grow to love and now to a much more important and sacred commitment. we’re so pumped for their wedding at j&d farms this coming september!

a few hours later, after lounging on the couch and a quick outfit change, we found ourselves exploring birmingham’s back roads with these two lovebirds. it was still mid-afternoon, but we were blessed with this amazing soft light that made these picturesque wheat fields glow. it was perfect! we’re so happy for our bro & sis and the exciting adventure they have ahead of them.

natalie & tc are so very sweet together. everything about this session was ideal – from the perfect weather to their stylish threads and the great location. tc currently lives in highland park, so we decided to meet up there and stroll around one of the many parks nestled in the middle of the neighborhood. natalie & tc are adorably opposite when it comes to their height, so it was fun trying to get them both in the frame! they are both working on finishing up school and after their june wedding they’ll be making the move to oxford, mississippi! we hope you enjoy this relaxed session.

laura & dillon are the definition of fun. their wedding ceremony was sweet and simple, but most of all it was a celebration. laura is bubbly and outgoing, so it was so fun to see her excitement in every little detail of the day. we’d been looking forward to this wedding, as we love the city of chattanooga + laura and dillon have been so fun to get to know in the months before their wedding. their reception was a non-stop dance party (those are the best kind!), but before heading to the party, we snagged some portraits of these two on a rooftop in downtown chattanooga with the most beautiful light! enjoy!

the hesters are long time friends of ours. heather prides herself on bringing our group of friends together, as she had a class at UA with wesley. she sat by wesley and his brother and shared her candy with them during class. suffice it to say, we’ve all been friends for about 8 years now. we stood by heather & andrew on their wedding day and then two years later we took photos for their two year anniversary and they shot our engagements. so, of course, now that we’re a little over the two year mark, it was time for some new portraits of ourselves! i guess it’s becoming somewhat of a tradition. we only wish that, sawyer, the hester’s dog could have joined us for this snuggly, winter session! you’ll be seeing the new photos that heather shot of us soon enough when we revamp our about page. plus, since heather shoots film, she’ll be sharing a bit of those on her blog as well- we can’t wait to see!
