a few months ago, katelyn, the creative force behind eye heart stationery, contacted us about documenting her work for a new website. she told me that we would have free reign over the creative side and let us know that she trusted us completely- which was super fun and exciting for us! i love having the invitations and paper goods available to photograph on a wedding day because i feel that they are important details that are usually very much in tune with the style of the wedding itself. invites are some of my favorite wedding details to capture so you know i was pumped about this project. katelyn’s invites and paper goods are unique, modern and classy. i’m sharing a few of our favorites, but you can see all of katelyn’s work on her lovely new site here. a huge thanks to miss katelyn for trusting us and for the sweet shout out on her about page.

i first met audrey when we were seniors in high school. i was from denton, texas and she was from jackson, mississippi. we were in east texas to attend a weekend retreat for high school kids at pine cove. she is bubbly, talkative and lovable, so it was easy to like her. she is still the same vivacious, friendly gal and she’s on the verge of starting her own image consulting business. she contacted me about doing head shots and editorial work for her new website and brochures and i’ve been super excited to help her out! she is absolutely gorgeous and knows what she’s doing in front of a camera, so it’s no surprise that 1. we got great images and 2. it was a breeze for me to photograph this lovely lady

the thing that i like most about erin + brian is that they are genuine. from the moment i met them for our shoot, everything from our conversations to the way they interacted with each other was real. they shared their lives with me for that one hour in oak mountain state park and i am grateful for it. i learned about brian’s big, greek family and his love for cars (he has 4 or 5 of his own!) and erin gushed about their upcoming honeymoon to greece. not to mention, i’m pretty sure we talked about the walking dead for a good 20 minutes we all decided that it’s about time carl had a bad run-in with a walker.

we’re back with more from sarah + ryan’s green mountain engagement session. a quick wardrobe change and a walk to the covered bridge made this still wintery scene all too lovely. it seems like the day after we shot their session the trees were covered in green and grass (or if you were to stand in our yard- weeds!) was sprouting up all over the place.

i love the tones in these images. the golden hour really is a dream to shoot.

we shot sarah + ryan’s engagement session at green mountain in huntsville. it is absolutely gorgeous and a great place to have a picnic or take relaxing hike on one of their many trails. we were so glad that sarah suggested this for their shoot! this is one of my favorite images from their session. i love the way the water has a slight sense of movement, yet it’s so smooth at the same time. the light was perfect and the weather was spectacular. it was a good day in huntsville, alabama, folks!

brett is a california girl and lover of southern culture. james is an alabama boy through and through. since they’re tying the knot in cali, an engagement session on james’ old stomping grounds was just right. these two have a sweet and affectionate love. brett and james are so natural together -whether we were shooting or just chatting with our cameras to the side. we loved documenting their story and they made it so very easy for us.

these two… are amazing people. i could write a novel about how we throughly enjoyed our long afternoon with them.

it all started in december when andy sent the most precious and thoughtful e-mail to us. he had not yet proposed to his girl of 8 years, but he was getting the ring and they knew one thing for sure… they wanted to drive from arkansas to birmingham for us to photograph them! of course, we ate that up and started counting down the days until our session. about a month before our scheduled date, i e-mailed andy just to check in on things and see if the question had been popped yet and this was his response:

“mrs. emma mam,

this is it.

the week.

ring is in.

plans are set.

here we go.”

i think i teared up upon reading this.

instantly upon meeting andy and brittany, we realized how comfortable our session would be. it felt like we were photographing two people we’d known for years. it’s such a blessing to document lives that line up with our own in so many ways. we had the pleasure of taking these dear people out to dinner before their trek back to arkansas. we consider them friends. precious friends. it really amazes me that this is my job. thank you, andy and brittany, for being amazing clients and new amigos, but more than that, for trusting us and believing in our work.

what can i say about rachel + aaron? so many good things- that’s for sure!

we drove to jackson on a thursday because we wanted to have time to explore a little place called fondren. rachel and aaron bought a house in it’s cute historic neighborhood and it’s where they filmed part of ‘the help’. the main drag is filled with cute boutiques, cozy coffee shops and a yummy bakery- not to mention the art deco influence of the whole area- it’s truly a lovely place. it was our second time there (our first time we were shooting rachel + aaron’s engagements!), and i was LOVING everything about fondren. this time, we took the opportunity to eat at brent’s drugs- the diner from ‘the help’. we got a burger, a grilled cheese and milkshakes and tried to relive the movie.

our sweet couple rachel + aaron were kind enough to invite us out-of-towners to their rehearsal dinner. it was such a blessing to hear their friends and family pour out all of their love for these darling people. rachel and aaron were wed at mississippi college’s provine chapel. after the ceremony we headed over to the cedars at fondren for the party! one thing we loved about their reception was the live band- now, we’ve been to a lot of weddings and don’t get us wrong, we LOVE some motown cover bands, but heavens to betsy killed it and even played a bit of their own music!

oh and don’t worry about all the cat images… they were just so cute!
